The Korean government and the AIIB will jointly host the 2nd AIIB Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors in Jeju, Republic of Korea, on June 16-18, 2017.
The AIIB, officially opening its door in January 2016, has helped promote economic development of the region by supporting major infrastructure projects.
Based on sustained and strategic investment in infrastructure, Korea has emerged as one of the largest economies in the world in just about half a century. With such experience and know-hows, Korea is strongly committed to promoting infrastructure build-up and economic growth in Asia in close cooperation with the AIIB.
I strongly believe that the 2017 Annual Meeting Korea will serve as a meaningful occasion for the AIIB to firmly position itself as a fullfledged global multilateral development bank specialized in infrastructure development. It will bring together about 2,000 participants including delegations of both 57 founding members and new members joining this year, international organizations, infrastructure businesses and financial institutions, media, and academia.
Along with the official sessions, a variety of side events such as country investment seminar, seminars on infrastructure, and one-on-one business meetings will be featured. I hope this year’s Annual Meeting will serve as a venue for facilitating “interaction” and “communication” among the AIIB members and the private sector related to infrastructure investment and development.
In collaboration with the AIIB, Korea will make its utmost effort for the success of the 2017 Annual Meeting. I look forward to seeing you in Jeju―a beautiful island abundant with natural sites inscribed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.
